CDAA Celebration! Conference April 29 to May 2, 2004

"The Canadian Doll Artist Association Conference held in Fort Erie, Ontario in May was most aptly named. It was, without a doubt, a 'Celebration'... a celebration of color, of creativity and of accomplishment... Over one hundred delegates, from throughout Canada, the USA, Australia and Bermuda, arrived at the four day conference with a wealth of ideas and enthusiasm and left with even more
...There was a variety of mediums and projects to introduce or develop skills and exercise the imagination with fabric, clay, beads,
dye and paint. Fifteen workshops in such things as needle felting, building armour, making wings, and designing journals, nourished the mind and the creative spirit.
...in record numbers, with two dolls even arriving from Italy(see the image to the right).
The diversity of design and material was inspiring. There were figures in wood, fabric, polymer, air dry clays, beads, wire and wool. It was a rich and delightful feast for the eyes. The entire event, from start to finish, was a Celebration indeed. Each year it gets bigger and better. As does the CDAA itself. There are currently 180 members from around the world, who enjoy networking with fellow artists and sharing their knowledge, enthusiasm and friendship. As well as being a vehicle to reach out to each other, the organization makes it possible for the artists as a group to reach out to the world through their wonderful website which showcases their work and the activity of the CDAA. So very much to Celebrate!" Photos taken by Marianne Reitsma.
